Baramulla, September 5: Tension escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after heavy mortar shelling and firing were reported in the Uri sector on Friday. According to officials, two security personnel and at least three civilians were killed in the incident, while several others sustained injuries.
The firing reportedly affected civilian areas close to the LoC, creating panic among residents. Security forces immediately strengthened their positions and responded to the firing. Authorities said that the troops gave an appropriate response to the reported ceasefire violation.
Among those killed was a Border Security Force (BSF) Sub-Inspector, identified as Rakesh Doval. Another security personnel also succumbed to injuries sustained during the shelling. Officials said that three civilians, including a woman, were also killed, while another civilian was reported critically injured.
Following the incident, security agencies increased vigilance across vulnerable areas of Uri and adjoining parts of Baramulla district. Residents living near the border were advised to remain cautious and follow instructions issued by local authorities and security agencies.
The latest incident has once again highlighted the sensitivity of the LoC areas and the risks faced by civilians and security personnel living and working close to the border.
Officials continued to monitor the situation and maintained heightened security in the affected areas. Further details regarding the casualties and damage were expected as authorities completed their assessment.
