Poonch/Khakanawan: A terrifying example of how deadly using a mobile phone while driving can be unfolded on Sunday in the Khakanawan area of Poonch. What was initially believed to be a simple case of brake failure turned out to be the result of severe driver distraction. Although the vehicle was not traveling at a high speed, the young driver had a mobile phone glued to his ear and was completely absorbed in his call. Due to this gross negligence, he lost focus on the road, causing the uncontrolled Hyundai Aura car to crash directly into a roadside shop.
Mobile Distraction Triggers the Cras
Traffic police frequently issue warnings and set up barricades to alert commuters, yet drivers often flagrantly disregard these safety norms. In this incident, despite the vehicle moving at a low speed, the driver was so engrossed in his phone that he completely lost control of the car. The vehicle veered off the road and slammed into the shop’s shutter and wall. Had the driver been paying attention, the car could have been easily brought to a halt at that low speed.
Miraculous Escape: Sunday Closure Averts Mass Casualties
It was nothing short of a miracle that the accident occurred on a Sunday. Had it been a normal working day with the shop open and pedestrians moving around, this sheer carelessness could have claimed multiple innocent lives. Since the shop was closed and no crowd was present in the vicinity, a major tragedy was narrowly avoided.

The impact was severe enough to cause significant damage to the shop’s structure and the front section of the Hyundai Aura, though fortunately, no casualties were reported. Hearing the loud crash, nearby residents and shopkeepers rushed to the spot, causing temporary chaos and alarm in the area. Local bystanders immediately rendered assistance in the rescue efforts.

Upon receiving information, a police team arrived at the scene to assess the situation and officially took cognizance of the matter. The police have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances, focusing on the illegal use of a mobile phone while driving. This incident serves as a stern reminder to all drivers who risk their own lives and the lives of others by talking on the phone while behind the wheel.
