Four CISF Personnel Killed in Fratricide Incident in Kathua

Assistant Commandant, Sub-Inspector Among Those Killed

Kathua, September 30: Four personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were killed in an alleged fratricide incident at the Sewa Hydel Power Project in the Basohli area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday evening. The incident reportedly occurred at around 7 pm.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Sandeep Kumar and Mohammad Rafiq. They were deployed for security duties at the Sewa-II power project in the Mashka area near the Jammu and Kashmir-Himachal Pradesh border.

Colleague Taken Into Custody

According to officials, a CISF Head Constable allegedly opened fire on his colleagues following an altercation. The accused, identified in media reports as Abdesh Singh, was apprehended by Kathua Police. His service weapon was also taken into custody as part of the investigation.

The injured personnel were rushed to an NHPC hospital in nearby Himachal Pradesh, where doctors declared them dead, according to reports.

Investigation Underway

Police and CISF teams have initiated investigations to determine the exact circumstances and sequence of events leading to the incident. Officials are questioning personnel present at the site and examining the available evidence.

The motive behind the firing has not been conclusively established. Some initial reports indicated that an argument preceded the incident, but authorities are continuing to verify the circumstances.

The incident occurred in a remote area of Kathua, with the site situated at the extreme end of the district and access requiring travel through Himachal Pradesh. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
