Shopian, September 5: Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a stone allegedly being presented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola” or meteorite. The action was taken in Shopian district on Saturday, with police recovering ₹5 lakh in cash and a stone from the spot.
According to police, the seven individuals were brought to Heerpora Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings. The persons were identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat of Bagi Islam, Baramulla; Safeeruddin Mir of Rajghat, Baramulla; Abdul Rashid Kirmani of Rawalpora, Srinagar; Mohammad Shafi Mir of Zaloora, Sopore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo of Pushroo Shangus, Anantnag; Arshid Ahmad Wani of Khurri Batpora, Kulgam; and Syed Gulzar Ahmad of Lakdipora Nihama, Kulgam.
During the preliminary inquiry, officers recovered ₹5,00,000 in cash along with a box containing a stone that was allegedly being represented as a rare “Trath Gola” meteorite. Two Alto vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 and JK03B-5955, were also brought to Heerpora Police Station for examination.
Police said an FIR, numbered 95/2026, has been registered at Heerpora Police Station under relevant legal provisions. Further investigation is underway to establish the complete circumstances of the transaction and determine whether fraud or other offences were involved.
Shopian Police have issued a public advisory urging people to remain cautious about claims involving rare, precious or meteorite stones. Citizens have been advised to verify the authenticity and actual market value of such objects through competent authorities before making financial transactions.
Officials reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in deceptive activities.
The investigation remains closely monitored.
