Poonch, September 22, 2026: Poonch Police has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minor minerals, conducting special checking operations in the Ajote and Poonch areas of the district.
As part of the enforcement drive, special naka points were established at strategic locations to monitor the movement of vehicles suspected of being involved in illegal mining activities. During the checking, police teams intercepted six tractor-trolleys allegedly carrying sand and gravel without valid permission.
According to police, the material being transported had been extracted through illegal mining and was being carried without the required authorization. Acting promptly, the police seized all six tractor-trolleys at the spot and prevented the unauthorized transportation of the minor minerals.
The seized vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Mining Department for further legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law. The action is part of the ongoing efforts of Poonch Police and the concerned authorities to check illegal extraction and transportation of natural resources in the district.
Officials said that illegal mining not only causes loss of government revenue but can also adversely affect the environment, water channels and surrounding areas. Regular checking and enforcement measures are therefore being undertaken to deter individuals involved in such activities.
Poonch Police has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against violations related to illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minor minerals. Police have also indicated that checking operations will continue at vulnerable locations across the district and that vehicles found violating applicable rules will face action as per law.
The seizure of the six tractor-trolleys marks another enforcement action aimed at curbing illegal mining and ensuring compliance with government regulations governing the extraction and transportation of minor minerals.
