In a major anti-drug operation, Anantnag Police launched a large-scale Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) across the Waghama area of Anantnag district as part of its intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking. During the coordinated operation, police detained 13 suspected drug peddlers for questioning and carried out searches at 20 different locations linked to alleged drug networks.
According to police officials, the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances in the district. Teams from Anantnag Police simultaneously raided multiple locations to identify individuals allegedly involved in drug peddling and dismantle local supply chains.
Officials said the CASO was conducted in a planned and intelligence-driven manner to curb the growing menace of narcotics in South Kashmir. The detained suspects are being questioned to establish their possible links with larger drug trafficking networks operating in the region. Police also collected evidence from the searched locations as part of the ongoing investigation.
Senior police officers reiterated that Anantnag Police follows a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse. They stated that similar operations will continue across the district to identify suppliers, break distribution channels, and protect young people from the harmful effects of narcotics.
Authorities appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug peddling or suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential and emphasized that community participation is essential in the fight against drug abuse.
The operation is part of a broader campaign being carried out across Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen action against narcotics-related crimes. Investigators are now examining the seized material and questioning the detained individuals to trace the source and possible interstate connections of the illegal drug trade.
