New Delhi, September 29: Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk has expressed support for the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed October 2 protest seeking accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Wangchuk said efforts aimed at improving accountability in the country and the electoral process deserve support.
May Not Attend Protest Personally
While extending his support to the proposed demonstration, Wangchuk indicated that he may not be physically present at the October 2 protest. He said movements should be able to continue independently and that he does not need to personally participate in every campaign.
Focus on Electoral Process
Wangchuk said the electoral process is an important part of a democratic system and argued that efforts to improve it and strengthen accountability should receive attention. He also referred to commitments made to Ladakh, including the issue of the Sixth Schedule.
CJP Plans October 2 Protest
The CJP has announced a protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, with the campaign focused on questions surrounding electoral-roll revision and accountability. The Election Commission, meanwhile, has maintained that decisions related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) were approved unanimously by the three Election Commissioners.
The controversy comes amid wider political debate over voter-list revisions and the functioning of the Election Commission. Different political groups and activists have raised concerns, while the Commission has defended its procedures and announced measures to assist voters affected by the revision process.
